No doubt you have seen this charming cat “beckoning” to you from inside the many stores and restaurants in the Islands.

According to ancient Japanese legend, the cat actually saved a feudal lord from being struck by lightning by beckoning his lordship into the safety of a nearby temple. Having saved his life, the feudal lord decreed that from that day forward the “Maneki Neko” (or Beckoning Cat) would become the symbol of good luck and good fortune.

Local shopkeepers continue this tradition by displaying these good luck cats with either their right or left paws raised to beckon customers, success and wealth into their businesses and homes.

While the white tri-color cat is the most widely recognized, the rare black cat guards against evil and is said to watch over a person’s health. Each carries an ancient gold coin. The inscription “Ten Million” represents much wealth.

We hope the lucky cat you choose today will bring much prosperity, good fortune and aloha to your home or business.
